Ezekiel 35

Ezekiel 35:14 – “This is what the Sovereign Lord says: The whole world will rejoice when I make you desolate.”

Read the full chapter here.

We’ve read one phrase over and over again in the book of Ezekiel: “Then you will know that I am the Lord.” (If you look in the Bible, you might notice that it is written “LORD” with a capital “L” and uppercase but smaller “ORD.” This is the closest representation we can get to the Hebrew way of writing God’s name, Yahweh: YHWH.)

God is proving to the world that he has the might and power to defeat evil and conquer oppressors. In case you are wondering how you might feel about God’s wrath and destruction, today’s highlighted verse gives us a clue. “The whole world will rejoice…” Your feelings about the defeat of evil regimes really depends on whose side you are on.

Here’s your freedom for today:

God’s fighting for the underdogs.

If you’ve gotten rich by robbing and oppressing others, I’ve got bad news for you. God’s not happy and he’s coming for you. If you’ve been the underdog in life, with no real shot at being powerful, God’s on your side. He’s fighting for you and he wants you on his side. Now, even earthly underdogs can try to find their own way. As we’ve said already in this series, saving yourself will never work. If you are an underdog looking for a rescuer, Jesus is the solution. God’s got you in mind as he seeks to bring an end to evil in this world.
